Hotel de Ville

Cholet's town hall is a late nineteenth-century building on Rue Saint-Bonaventure, standing in for the older town hall destroyed in the Vendée wars and never properly replaced. It is the obvious civic landmark of the centre, with a clock tower, a wide ceremonial staircase, and a small public garden in front.

The interior is worth a glance for the painted ceiling of the marriage hall, but the main reason to come is simply that it anchors the small grid of pedestrianised streets around it — the most walkable part of Cholet and where the cafes cluster.
