Lac de Ribou is a reservoir on the southern edge of the city, about four kilometres from the centre, and it is where Cholet goes to walk, picnic, sail and swim in the warmer months. A path runs around the whole lake — about ten kilometres — through woodland and reedy shore. The surface is given over to dinghy sailing and windsurfing rather than motor traffic.
A small leisure park with a swimming area and water sports sits at the western end. Out of season the place can feel completely empty, which is its main appeal.
