La Maison de la Beurière

La Maison de la Beurière is a small house museum in the Beurière quarter — historically the fishermen's district below the Haute Ville — preserved as it would have looked in the early 20th century when Boulogne's fishing fleet was at its height. The rooms are furnished with original objects and the interpretation focuses on the daily life of a fishing family: the rhythms of the catch, the role of women in processing the fish (herring in particular), the social life of a tight-knit working quarter.

The museum is small and takes about 30-45 minutes to visit, but it is one of those genuinely atmospheric places where the past is easily imaginable. The quarter itself is worth a wander; some of the oldest streets in lower Boulogne survive here.
