Château d'Enghien

Small 18th-century mansion in the château park, near the main gate

Address Domaine de Chantilly, 60500 Chantilly

A modest stone-faced pavilion in the park of the Château de Chantilly, just inside the main gate near the racing entrance. It was built in 1772 by Louis V Joseph de Bourbon, Prince of Condé, as accommodation for guests visiting the main château. The name commemorates the Battle of Enghien.

The building has changed function many times — guest house, hunting lodge, school annex — and is currently used as administrative offices for the Domaine de Chantilly. The exterior, with its symmetric facade and elegant Neoclassical proportions, is worth a passing look on the way into the main estate. The interior is not generally open to the public.

A small ornamental garden at the front, replanted in the 1980s, follows the original 18th-century plan.
