Things to Do

Bénouville's sights are compact and concentrated around the Caen Canal. The core circuit — Pegasus Memorial museum, the bridge itself, Café Gondrée, and a look at Horsa Bridge across the Orne — takes two to three hours at a comfortable pace.

For the D-Day context, start with the Pegasus Memorial museum: it sets up the planning and execution of the glider assault clearly enough that the bridge and café visit immediately after feels grounded in something real rather than just scenic. Ranville War Cemetery, a five-minute drive east, is where many of the 6th Airborne soldiers are buried and is a sobering end to the circuit. The Château de Bénouville to the south is worth a look for anyone who wants a break from the military history — the formal grounds are free to walk.
