Le Clos Arsène Lupin

Le Clos Arsène Lupin is the half-timbered villa that Maurice Leblanc — the inventor of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin — bought in 1918 and kept until his death in 1941. It has been turned into a small audio-guided museum about Lupin, Leblanc, and the connection between the cliffs and the books: Lupin's lair in The Hollow Needle is the chalk pinnacle off the western cliff.

The tour is more entertaining than usual museum fare — narrated by Lupin himself, complete with theatrical asides and a clever escape-route conceit through the rooms of the house. Allow an hour. A small terrace garden looks toward the cliffs.

A story
Maurice Leblanc lived in this house from 1918 to his death in 1941 and wrote 30 of his Arsène Lupin stories here. After he was made an Officer of the Légion d'Honneur in 1933 he renamed the place 'Le Clos Arsène Lupin'. Visitors today follow an audio-guided tour narrated, of course, by Lupin himself.
