Avignon has a serious restaurant scene for a city of its size, underpinned by Provence's outstanding produce — olive oil, tomatoes, lamb from the Alpilles, truffles from the Vaucluse, and wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape just up the road. The streets around the Place de l'Horloge and the covered market on Les Halles are the best hunting grounds.
