Fête du Citron (Lemon Festival)

Every February, Menton transforms its Bioves gardens into an open-air exhibition of enormous citrus sculptures — floats, figures, and architectural constructions assembled entirely from lemons and oranges, each edition following a different theme. The festival runs for about three weeks and draws visitors from across Europe.

The main parade, Les Corsi d'Or, happens on weekend evenings with illuminated floats making their way through the town. Daytime events include street theatre, flower battles, and guided walks through the sculpted garden. If you're on the Riviera in February, Menton is worth a detour — there is genuinely nothing else like it on the coast.

A story
The festival began in 1934 as a modest display inside the hotel gardens, organised to attract visitors during the quiet February lull. It grew into something far larger than anyone expected — today it uses around 145 tonnes of citrus fruit per edition, the equivalent of a small orchard's entire annual output, all sculpted into elaborate parade floats and architectural structures.
