Kakheti is about 80 kilometres east of Tbilisi along the A302, a journey of roughly 90 minutes by car when traffic allows. The road passes through the Tsiv-Gombori ridge before dropping into the Alazani Valley. Marshrutka minibuses run frequently from Tbilisi's Isani metro station to Telavi (around 3 GEL, 2–2.5 hours). Separate marshrutkas connect Tbilisi with Kvareli and Gurjaani.
For day trips to multiple sites, renting a car in Tbilisi is the most practical option. The roads within Kakheti are mostly paved and in reasonable condition. A driver-guide hired for the day from Tbilisi gives you flexibility without the stress of Georgian road conventions.
There is no train connection to Kakheti. The closest airport is Tbilisi International.
