Getting There

Tskhavati is not easy to reach. The village lies in the Ksani Gorge in Shida Kartli, in the Akhalgori district — an area close to the administrative boundary with South Ossetia. The political situation in the district has made access unpredictable since 2008; check the current state before planning a visit.

The nearest major town is Gori, about 50 kilometres away. From Gori, the road into the Ksani valley is paved for part of the way and deteriorates further up the gorge. A 4WD vehicle is advisable. There is no public transport; you will need a hired driver or your own vehicle. Tbilisi is about 2.5 hours by car.
