On foot: The centre of Friedrichshafen is compact and walkable. The Zeppelin Museum, the promenade, the Schlosskirche, and the town centre shops are all within comfortable walking distance of each other and of the ferry harbour.
By bike: Cycling is the best way to explore the Bodensee shore. The lakeside cycle path (Bodensee-Radweg) is flat, well-signed, and scenic. Bike rental is available from several shops near the station and the promenade — expect to pay around €15–20 per day for a decent bicycle. Electric bikes are widely available. The flat terrain makes this an easy option for most fitness levels.
By bus: Local buses cover the wider city including the Dornier Museum and the airport. The main bus lines radiate from Stadtbahnhof. Tickets can be bought from the driver; a day pass is worthwhile if you plan to use buses more than twice.
By steamer: BSB (Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe) operates the lake steamers. As well as the Romanshorn car ferry, there are regular passenger services to Konstanz, Meersburg, Lindau, and Bregenz. Taking a short hop by steamer — even just to Meersburg and back — is one of the best ways to appreciate the lake.
Taxi and ride-share: Taxis are available from the station and can be booked by phone. No significant ride-share presence in a city this size.
