Stadtmuseum Rottweil

The Stadtmuseum, housed in a fine baroque town house at Hauptstrasse 20, is the place to make sense of Rottweil's two thousand years of history. The displays cover the Roman garrison, the medieval imperial city status, and the centuries of being part of the Swiss Confederation — Rottweil was an associated member of the Swiss for several hundred years before being absorbed into Württemberg in 1803.

The Fasnet section is the most popular, with a roomful of carved wooden Larven and historic costumes that gives you a strong sense of the festival outside of carnival week. Open Tuesday to Sunday; modest entry fee.
