Holderlinturm

Riverside tower where poet Holderlin spent his last 36 years

The yellow tower on the Neckar riverbank where Friedrich Holderlin, one of Germany's greatest poets, spent the last 36 years of his life in a state of gentle madness, cared for by a local carpenter's family. He continued to write poems during this period — short, luminous pieces quite different from his earlier work. The tower is now a small museum dedicated to his life and poetry. On the Bursagasse, right on the riverbank.
