Hochwachtturm

Late-medieval watchtower on the city wall, Waiblingen's most recognisable landmark.

The Hochwachtturm is the town's signature landmark — a circular stone watchtower of the late 15th century built into the city wall, just outside the old core. The conical, tiled roof and the narrow watch windows are exactly what you would draw if asked to sketch a Swabian medieval town tower.

It once served as the high lookout point of the town's defences. Today it stands free in a small park beside the wall walk, easy to reach from the centre. You cannot usually go inside, but it is the focal point of the photogenic wall walk and is floodlit at night.
