Bamberg sits on the main north-south ICE line between Nuremberg and Würzburg; trains run hourly, and the journey from Nuremberg takes about forty minutes. From Munich it is around two hours; from Frankfurt about two and a half. The station is fifteen minutes' walk east of the old town or a short bus ride.
The nearest airport is Nuremberg (NUE), forty minutes by S-Bahn and ICE. Bamberg is also on the Main-Danube Canal, and river cruises tie up at the dock north of the old town.
