Schloss Rosenau lies about five kilometres northeast of Coburg, a modest summer palace surrounded by an English-style landscape park that was laid out in the early nineteenth century. The palace is small and intimate compared to the grand Ehrenburg in town — white-painted, with Gothic Revival detailing that was fashionable among German courts of the period.
Tours of the interior show rooms furnished much as they were in Albert's childhood, with particular attention paid to his connections with the British royal family. The surrounding park, with its river, meadows, and carefully placed tree groups, is one of the most pleasant green spaces in the region. Rosenau is an easy bike ride from Coburg through flat farmland and makes a good half-day excursion from the city.
