St George's Church is Freising's principal parish church, standing at the lower edge of the Domberg slope between the cathedral hill and the Marktplatz. The exterior is a restrained Baroque tower; the interior is brighter and more generous than you might expect, with stucco work and ceiling paintings typical of the Bavarian Baroque tradition. It has none of the imposing weight of the cathedral above, and that relative lightness is its appeal — it feels like a church people actually use.
The church dates originally from the 12th century but was rebuilt repeatedly, with the current Baroque form dating from the 18th century. Worth a ten-minute stop while making your way between the Marktplatz and the Domberg. Open daily; free entry.
