Landshut Wedding

Massive four-yearly re-enactment of a 1475 ducal wedding, with processions, jousts, and medieval dress.

The Landshut Wedding turns the whole city into a medieval stage. It re-creates the 1475 marriage of Duke George the Rich to Hedwig Jagiellon, with processions, riders, music, markets, and thousands of local participants in period dress.

The festival is held every four years, so timing matters. Even if you miss it, the event explains much of Landshut's self-image: this is a city that has kept its medieval fabric and knows exactly how to use it.
