Zum Sünfzen is Lindau's most historic restaurant, occupying a building in the old town that dates back to the 15th century. The dining room has the low ceilings, dark wood, and painted walls of a proper south German gasthaus, and the menu follows suit: fresh lake fish — Bodensee Felchen, pike-perch, perch — alongside Bavarian staples and a wine list drawing from the Württemberg and Bodensee wine regions on the lake's northern shore.
The lake fish are the thing to order here. Felchen (whitefish) from Lake Constance has a clean, delicate flavour that the kitchen respects — it is usually lightly pan-fried or poached rather than buried in sauce. Prices are reasonable by resort-town standards, the service is professional, and the setting is genuinely old without feeling preserved for show.
