Eating Out

Regensburg has a good range of places to eat beyond the obvious tourist stops. The old town is full of medieval courtyards and restaurants, and the university ensures there are plenty of affordable options alongside the more formal dining rooms.

The Historische Wurstkuchl under the Stone Bridge is the non-negotiable starting point — sausages grilled over beechwood, eaten outdoors with the Danube in front of you. Beyond that, look for restaurants serving Bavarian standards: Schweinebraten (slow-roasted pork), Leberknödelsuppe (liver dumpling soup), and Weißwurst in the mornings. The Stadtamhof district across the river has a more neighbourhood feel with some good local spots.
