Gasthof zur Post

A traditional Bavarian Gasthof in the centre of Peiting, the Gasthof zur Post is the kind of place that has fed the local farming community and passing travellers for generations. The menu runs to the classics of Upper Bavarian cooking: Schweinebraten with bread dumplings and red cabbage, Wiener Schnitzel served the traditional way with potato salad, Leberknödelsuppe to start, and — in the right season — white asparagus from the Lechtal.

The interior has the low-ceilinged, dark-wood character of the older Bavarian inn, with a Stammtisch in the corner that fills with regulars on weekday evenings. Service is matter-of-fact and efficient rather than attentive in the hotel-restaurant sense. Portions are generous.

Lunch is the main meal here, as in most Bavarian Gasthöfe of this type. Check current opening hours before arriving in the evening — kitchens in smaller Bavarian towns often close earlier than visitors from larger cities expect.
