Named after the old postal code for eastern Kreuzberg, SO36 has been a fixture of Berlin's underground scene since the late 1970s. The venue started as a punk club -- Iggy Pop, the Dead Kennedys, and Die Toten Hosen all played here -- and has evolved into one of the city's most eclectic nightlife spots.
The weekly program rotates through genres: Monday's "Electric Ballroom" draws the techno crowd, while the long-running "Gayhane" party (monthly, on a Saturday) mixes queer culture with Turkish and Arabic pop in a way that could only happen in Kreuzberg.
