Oranienburg is easily reached from Berlin by S-Bahn line S1 from central Berlin stations including Friedrichstraße, Unter den Linden, and Potsdamer Platz — the ride takes around 50 minutes to an hour. Regional trains from Berlin Hauptbahnhof are faster, reaching Oranienburg in about 35 minutes on the RB12 line. The town has a single main station, Bahnhof Oranienburg, right in the centre.
By car from Berlin, Oranienburg is about 35 kilometres north via the A111 motorway and then the B96. The journey takes around 40 minutes outside rush hour. There is street parking near the palace and in the town centre; the Sachsenhausen memorial site has a dedicated car park nearby.
