Darmstadt is 30 kilometres south of Frankfurt and well connected by rail and road. From Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, S-Bahn lines S3 and S7 run frequently to Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof — the journey takes around 35 minutes. Long-distance trains (IC/ICE) from Frankfurt also stop at Darmstadt, cutting the journey to 15 minutes. From Frankfurt Airport, take the S-Bahn to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and change there, or take a direct train if one is running.
By car, Darmstadt is directly on the A5 and A67 motorways. Parking in the centre is metered; park-and-ride facilities exist at the main railway station. There is no direct airport at Darmstadt — Frankfurt Airport (FRA), about 30 minutes by rail, serves the region.
