Getting Around

Rudesheim is a small town easily explored on foot. It is close to Assmannshausen -- you can travel between the two by train or walk along the Rhine (6 to 7 km). The cable car takes you up to the Niederwald, while a chair lift brings you back down to Assmannshausen, with views of the vineyards along the way.

Bicycle

Several shops rent bicycles, and the area has trails suitable for both leisurely sightseeing and cross-country mountain biking. The national highways from Rudesheim to Bingen are closed to cars on the last Sunday of June but open to cyclists and in-line skaters.

Train or Bus

The rail station is on the Wiesbaden-Koblenz line, well connected to regional towns and main cities. Buses are operated by Omnibusverkehr Rhein-Nahe GmbH and offer a reasonable way to travel within the area.
