Marienburg Castle

Gothic Revival castle south of Hanover and near Hildesheim

Marienburg Castle is a dramatic 19th-century Gothic Revival castle rising above the Leine valley between Hildesheim and Hanover. Built for the Hanoverian royal family, it looks like a storybook medieval castle despite its relatively recent date.

The castle is outside Hildesheim, but it is one of the region's most striking architectural excursions. Check current access before going, since restoration work and tour arrangements can affect what visitors can see.
