A 20-minute walk north of the centre, the Gärtnermuseum tells the unusual story of Wolfenbüttel's market gardens. From the 17th to the early 20th century, the suburb of Auguststadt was almost entirely given over to commercial vegetable growing — beds of asparagus, leek, and chicory that supplied Braunschweig and the wider region.
The museum is small but well-curated, with original tools, photographs of the gardens in their heyday, and reconstructed beds outside. Of niche but real interest if you have any feeling for agricultural history.
