Jägermeister Headquarters

The headquarters of Mast-Jägermeister sit on the northern edge of Wolfenbüttel, where the herbal liqueur has been produced since 1934. The company has no distillery tours of the Scotch-whisky variety; the production hall is closed to the public for reasons of trade secrecy.

But the visitor centre does open occasional public days, and the Jägermeister-Halle hosts concerts and corporate events. For most travellers it is enough to walk past the surprising amount of Jägermeister-branded street furniture nearby and tick the box.

A story
Curt Mast, the company founder, was a passionate hunter who wanted to make a liqueur to drink after a successful day in the woods. He named it Jägermeister — 'master hunter' — and put a stag on the bottle because of the legend of St Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters, who supposedly converted after seeing a glowing crucifix between a stag's antlers. The drink was launched in 1934 and is still made to the original recipe of 56 herbs and roots.
