Treptower Tor

The Treptower Tor is the finest of Neubrandenburg's four medieval city gates, built around 1400 and extensively decorated with glazed terracotta panels depicting saints, heraldic animals, and geometric patterns. It stands about 30 metres high and served as the main southern entrance to the city. The decoration on the town-facing side is noticeably richer than on the outer side — it was designed to impress visitors arriving from the south.

The gate now houses a permanent exhibition on the history of the city wall. You can climb to the top for views over the old town and surrounding landscape. The exhibition is modest but well-curated; the highlight is the scale model of the medieval city that gives a clear sense of how compact and well-defended the original town was.
