Rostock's main contemporary and modern art museum, housed in a striking circular building completed in 1969 on the shores of the Stadthafen (city harbour). The permanent collection concentrates on 20th-century German and international art, with particular strength in works from the GDR period — an interesting lens on art made under political constraint.
Temporary exhibitions vary considerably in quality, so check what's on. The building's circular form and harbour-side location make it architecturally notable in its own right. A 10-minute tram ride from the old town.
