The Dreiländereck — Three Countries Triangle — is the border point where Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands converge on a forested hilltop called the Vaalserberg, about 8 km west of Aachen city centre. At 322 metres it is also the highest point in the Netherlands, a distinction that is more amusing than impressive: you can walk from Germany into the Netherlands into Belgium and back in about thirty seconds. The markers and the small bronze monuments to European unity have a certain absurd charm.
The hilltop is easily reached by bus from Aachen or on foot along the GR paths. There are cafes and a viewing tower. On clear days the Ardennes hills are visible to the southwest. A popular excursion for families and for those who want to stand in three countries at once.
