Marschiertor is the heavy southern gate of medieval Aachen, a twin-towered reminder that the imperial city was once ringed by substantial fortifications. Its masonry, narrow openings, and broad passage make the defensive purpose clear even from the pavement outside.
The gate is usually appreciated from the street rather than as a full interior visit, but it is a worthwhile detour near the station and a useful counterpoint to the cathedral quarter. Together with Ponttor, it gives a tangible sense of Aachen's medieval scale beyond the spa and imperial monuments.
