Villa Hammerschmidt was the official residence of the West German president from 1951 until the government moved to Berlin in the 1990s. The Rhine-side villa is still used as a secondary presidential residence, so it is mainly an exterior stop, but it helps make sense of Bonn's postwar capital district.
