Grüner Winkel

The Grüner Winkel — Green Corner — is Lippstadt's riverside parkland in the heart of the old town, where several branches of the Lippe converge among willows and water meadows. Walking and cycling paths thread through the area, and two canoe hire companies (Gamann Kanus and Kanutouren Deppe) operate from the landing point at the park's edge, offering tours along the Lippe that pass under old stone bridges and past the Stiftsruine walls.

The park has two playgrounds, a café with a beer garden, and stands of old trees that make it genuinely pleasant in summer. Lippstadt's self-styled nickname "Venice of Westphalia" is a stretch, but the Grüner Winkel is the place that most earns it: the town's network of water channels is most visible here, and the combination of Gothic ruins, green meadows, and paddlers on the river gives the place a character most towns this size cannot match.
