Lippstadt's historic Rathaus on Lange Straße dates from 1773 and is a restrained Baroque-Classical building that anchors the main pedestrian street. The ground floor houses the Kulturinformation office and a gallery space where the Stadtmuseum mounts changing exhibitions of contemporary art. The building is modest by the standards of major Westphalian towns but fits the scale of Lippstadt well — this was a prosperous but never grand trading town, and the Rathaus reflects that.
The Lange Straße in front of it functions as the town's social spine: several of the buildings along the north side are notable half-timbered structures, including the Goldener Hahn restaurant, housed in one of the finest Fachwerk buildings in the old town. The street is also where you'll find the Apotheke café, a former pharmacy over 300 years old that was converted in 2017.
