The Stadttheater at Cappeltor 3 is Lippstadt's main performance venue, opened in 1973 and designed by Prof. Gerhard Graubner with an open stage concept that puts the audience unusually close to the action. The main hall seats 779 people; a smaller studio stage and the foyer handle more intimate productions.
As a guest theatre without its own ensemble, the Stadttheater has the freedom to book a wide range of visiting companies: opera, operetta, musical, ballet, cabaret, comedy, drama, and orchestral concerts all appear in a single season. Around 100 events a year run here, and popular productions sell out fast. Tickets and information are available from the Kulturinformation office at Lange Straße 14, open Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–14:00.
