Weinhaus Hubertus

The oldest Weinstube in Koblenz, in a half-timbered building on the Florinsmarkt that dates from 1689 and somehow survived the bombing. The dining room is low-ceilinged, dark-panelled and barely changed in a century; the menu is the canonical Rhineland repertoire — Sauerbraten with potato dumplings, smoked Rhine trout, leek-and-potato soup.

The wine list is exclusively Moselle and Mittelrhein, mostly Riesling, with a few good Spätburgunder reds. Lunch is the more accessible meal; dinner is busy with locals and reservation is sensible.
