Along the Norderstraße pedestrian shopping street, hidden cats have been placed at various heights and positions — on ledges, behind signs, peering around corners, perched on rooftops. They are small metal or stone figures, and the game is to find as many as possible while walking the length of the street. There is no official count or prize; the hunt is its own reward.
This is one of those small-city surprises that makes Flensburg more interesting than its modest tourist profile suggests. Walking the Norderstraße takes about fifteen minutes without the hunt; with it, the same walk can easily take an hour. The cats are a reasonable excuse to slow down on a street that rewards attention to detail.
