Half Tower (Halber Mond)

A tilted half-timbered house built into a medieval wall segment, dated 1672

On the eastern edge of the Altstadt, a salvaged segment of the medieval city wall has a half-timbered house wedged onto it. The wall is original — part of the inner defensive ring — and the house, dated 1672, was built on top after the walls lost their military function. The whole thing leans noticeably to the east; the upper storey overhangs.

The structure is private and not open to visit, but the view from the Wallstraße sidewalk is the photograph. Combine with a walk along the Trave canal and back into the Altstadt via the An der Mauer lane.
