Agios Nektarios Monastery

Major Aegina pilgrimage site dedicated to Saint Nektarios, with monastery and large modern church

Agios Nektarios Monastery is one of Aegina's main inland sights and one of the most important modern pilgrimage places in Greece. The large church below and the monastery of Agia Triada above are tied to Saint Nektarios, who lived on Aegina and remains deeply venerated in the Greek Orthodox world.

Even if you are not religious, the site helps explain a side of Aegina that the harbour cafes and beaches do not. Dress modestly, keep your voice down around worshippers, and combine the visit with nearby Paliachora or the Temple of Aphaia if you have transport across the island.
