Things to Do

Aegina rewards a slow pace. The Temple of Aphaia is the main ancient site and one of the best-preserved Doric temples in Greece. The abandoned medieval town of Paliachora offers atmospheric wandering among ruined churches. The harbour town of Aegina itself is pleasant for walking, eating, and watching the ferry traffic. Beaches are spread around the island — Agia Marina on the east coast is the most developed; quieter coves are accessible by scooter or bus. Pistachio groves cover much of the interior, and every shop in town sells the local variety, considered among the finest in the world.
