Gazi

Gazi takes its name from the Technopolis gasworks complex at its heart — a complete late-19th-century coal-gas plant converted into a cultural centre with exhibition spaces, performance halls, and a small museum. The brick chimneys and gas-holders are floodlit at night and dominate the surrounding district, which has become the centre of Athens's gay nightlife and a more general club-and-bar scene for younger Athenians.

The area lights up after midnight. By day, look for the gasworks itself, the cluster of independent restaurants along Persefonis and Triptolemou, and the Kerameikos archaeological site on the northern edge of the district. Connected to central Athens by the Kerameikos metro station.
