Glyfada

Glyfada is the upmarket coastal suburb 15 km south of central Athens, the closest real beach district to the city and a Saturday-night destination for younger Athenians. The waterfront has a string of organised beaches — Asteras, Akti Vouliagmenis, and Astir — with sunbeds, water-sports rentals, and beach bars open into the evening.

The streets back from the beach hold the largest concentration of designer boutiques in greater Athens, a quayside marina, and the city's old golf course. By night the seafront restaurants and clubs come alive. Tram 6 from Syntagma reaches Glyfada in about 45 minutes; the metro is faster as far as Elliniko, with a short bus or taxi connection to the beach.
