Chios has an airport (CHQ) with direct flights from Athens year-round on Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. The flight takes about 50 minutes. In summer, some charter flights operate from other European cities.
Ferries connect Chios to Piraeus (Athens) in about 8–9 hours overnight; several companies operate this route. There are also regular ferries to Lesbos (2–3 hours) and seasonal connections to other Aegean islands. A fast ferry service cuts the Athens journey to around 4 hours on some routes.
From Turkey, there are small boats from Cesme to Chios port — the crossing takes about 30 minutes and operates in summer. This makes Chios a natural stopping point on an Aegean itinerary combining Greece and Turkey.
Car rental is available at the airport and in Chios town. A car is strongly recommended for exploring the south of the island and the mountain villages — public buses reach the main villages but infrequently.
