Getting There

Hania has its own airport (IATA: CHQ), 14 km northeast of the city on the Akrotiri peninsula. Direct flights operate from many European cities in summer (April–October); in winter the connections are mainly via Athens. The airport is served by taxis and buses to the city centre.

By ferry, Hania is connected to Piraeus (Athens port) by overnight ferry — the journey takes 7–9 hours, arriving at Souda Bay, 8 km east of the city. The Anek Lines and Minoan Lines ferries are comfortable; booking in advance is essential in summer.

From Heraklion, the KTEL bus service connects the two cities in about 2.5 hours along the E75 coastal highway; buses run roughly hourly in summer.
