The Fethiye ("Conquest") Mosque inside the upper Its Kale citadel was rebuilt in the early 19th century during Ali Pasha's rule, replacing an earlier mosque from 1430. It is the largest of the three surviving Ottoman mosques in Ioannina and the most central to the city's Ottoman history.
The minaret is still in place — square base and slim cylindrical shaft — and the prayer hall is open as part of the citadel circuit. In the small courtyard outside stands a tomb said to be that of Ali Pasha himself, who was killed within the citadel walls in 1822. The Byzantine Museum is just next door.
