Plomari Harbour

The small harbour at the foot of Plomari's old town is where the town's daily life is most visible. Fishing boats come and go; the catch is sold at the quayside in the morning. A handful of tavernas with outdoor tables face the water and serve the day's fish alongside the local ouzo — the obvious pairing in a town that produces both.

The harbour has a quiet, end-of-the-road quality. Plomari is not on the main tourist circuit of Lesbos, which concentrates around Mytilene and the northern coast. This suits the harbour well: the atmosphere is genuine rather than performed, and you're likely to be eating alongside fishermen and local families rather than other tourists.
