Golden Beach (Chrysi Akti)

Golden Beach (Chrysi Akti) is a long stretch of fine sand on the southeast coast, and the top windsurfing destination on Paros. Several schools operate here, from beginner sessions to advanced coaching, and equipment hire is available. In summer the meltemi wind arrives reliably in the afternoon, making mornings calm enough for swimming and afternoons good for sailing.

If you are not here for the wind sports, the beach is still one of the best on the island — two kilometres of sand, clean water, and a row of tavernas and cafes behind the dunes. The area is more developed than the north-coast beaches, with hotels and holiday apartments backing the beach road. Buses run from Parikia in summer.

A story
The Professional Windsurfers Association has held world-ranking events at Golden Beach since the 1990s. The beach's position on the southeast coast means it catches the meltemi — the strong north wind that barrels down the Aegean in summer — head-on, generating consistent conditions that professional riders seek out. During competition weeks in August, the beach fills with the colourful sails of riders from fifty-odd countries.
