Kolymbithres

Kolymbithres is the most distinctive beach on Paros: a series of small sandy coves divided and sheltered by huge rounded granite boulders, sculpted by wind into smooth, organic shapes. The rocks create natural pools and windbreaks, and the water between them is calm and clear even when the meltemi is blowing.

The beach is on the north coast near Naoussa, accessible by a short boat ride from the harbour or by a twenty-minute walk along the coastal path. It gets busy in peak summer — arrive before 10am or after 4pm for room. There are sun beds for hire and a small canteen. The rocky areas around the main beach are good for snorkelling.

A story
The rounded granite formations at Kolymbithres were shaped over millions of years by wind erosion. The same rock type runs through a large band of the central Cyclades — visible above water at Paros and Naxos, and forming the dramatic boulders of Ikaria further east.
