The harbour front in Naoussa is lined with restaurants, and the best strategy is to walk the full length before sitting down — the kitchens vary more than the setting suggests. Look for tables where locals are eating alongside tourists, which in Naoussa is still possible. The fish is almost always fresh; the octopus hung drying on lines outside the kitchen is the traditional indicator of a serious fish taverna.
Inland from the harbour, in the lanes behind the church, a few smaller places offer grilled meat and home-style cooking at lower prices. The wine is mainly local or from neighbouring islands — Naxian wines in particular pair well with the food.
